Spring Break - Hour 118
We’re on day 5 of the Spring Break adventure and the weather finally broke! It’s about 65 degrees outside and sunny. The relief is palpable. Just for reference, this was our yard on Monday:

The kids were thrilled with the weather because it meant they could start digging up their gardens. All Boy found a bulb lying out on the sidewalk and planted it in his garden. Smarty Pants and Crazy Girl are looking forward to planting too, but Crazy Girl is more interested in playing Oblivion right now. Her dad and I got her hooked on it.

I put the first tray of peat pots outside to get some real sunlight and harden up a bit. The Bachelor Buttons are going to need to be planted soon but the Snapdragons and the catnip have a ways to go. In the second tray, the lettuce has sprouted nicely, not so much the carrots or the cantaloupe. Hopefully we’ll see some sign of life soon.

We’re watching the neighbor boy today. His mom had a baby recently and they want to get their place cleaned and organized. It is important to me that the kids learn to help people when you can. While Big Guy and I have our financial difficulties, we’re blessed enough to be better off than most and to recognize it.
For lunch, I threw together a quick and simple recipe of noodles, diced tomatoes, butter and spices. Boil the noodles until they are done, butter them and add spices (I recommend basil, oregano, rosemary, and other italian style spices) and then add the can of diced tomatoes. It’s almost like spaghetti, but lighter. It’s a good, quick, filling recipe that doesn’t make you feel like you gained 30 pounds. Perfect for kids on the go.
